Orthopaedics is the medical speciality concerned with diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves.)
Fracture and Orthopaedic Outpatients is based on Level 3.
Clinics are led by СÓŶÌÊÓƵs with registrars and specialist physiotherapists working alongside them. Clinics are held on every week day and sometimes, when required, an additional clinic will be held on a Saturday.
Orthopaedic Clinics are also run in Shaftesbury and Westbury but all Fracture Clinics and Virtual Fracture Clinics are held at Salisbury.
We have specialist Orthopaedic СÓŶÌÊÓƵs providing a spinal, hip, knee, foot and ankle, shoulder and wrist service.
The majority of hand injuries are seen and treated in the Plastics Outpatient Department.

Fracture Clinics
Due to the unpredictable nature of injuries, the fracture clinics can be very busy. You should allow at least one to two hours for each clinic attendance (which may include consultations, x-rays, wound dressings, plaster casts, blood tests and other investigations) If you need pain killers you should bring them with you and take them as normal to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.
Plaster Room
Our plaster room is staffed by an experienced team of Orthopaedic Practitioners. We provide a service, incorporating casting, bracing and splinting, for all patients of all ages with fractures and orthopaedic conditions and give advice and information during the treatment process.
Plaster Room information
We aim to provide an efficient, friendly and high quality service, keeping you informed about your treatment and involving you in any decisions that are made. We strive to ensure that your journey through our department is as smooth as possible but due to the complexity of some conditions there are unfortunately some inevitable delays and we try to ensure that these are accurately displayed on the plasma screen in the waiting room.
There may be more than one clinic running at the same time and patients are seen in order of appointment time not time of arrival. One of the СÓŶÌÊÓƵs will have overall responsibility for your care but at your appointment you may be seen by another member of the medical/physiotherapy team.
Information leaflets are available for many of the conditions seen in the department and we encourage patients to ask questions in order to fully understand their treatment.
Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of СÓŶÌÊÓƵ Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
